The PNT 12 Trail starts from La Rambleta, next to the upper station of the Teide Cable Car (about 3,555 m), and covers just 730 meters one way to the Pico Viejo viewpoint in about 30 minutes. From there, one overlooks the immense crater of the Pico Viejo volcano or Montana Chahorra, a mouth about 800 meters in diameter; its summit reaches 3,135 m, the second highest volcano in the Canary Islands after Teide itself. The viewpoint also allows you to see Las Narices del Teide, the black lava flow from the 1798 eruption, the last recorded within the National Park.

On clear days, the view reaches the islands of La Gomera, La Palma, and El Hierro. It is a free access route, without the need for prior authorization.
