Porís de Abona
Porís de Abona is the main coastal settlement of Arico and a place full of seafaring history. The term «porís» means in Canarian speech an anchorage or small natural jetty, and the settlement arose as a modest fishermen's hamlet in the mid-19th century. For generations, fishing—especially the chinchorro, a communal method—supported many of the municipality's families, while the port channelled coastal trade. Today Porís combines its fishing essence with calm-water coves, natural pools and rock pools, and an offer of fresh fish that attracts visitors. Its seafront, its small fleet and its peaceful atmosphere make it an ideal destination for enjoying the most authentic coastline of southeastern Tenerife.
