Teide National Park, laurel forests, hiking trails

Tenerife packs an unmatched natural diversity into a single island: from Mount Teide, the highest peak in Spain (3,715 m) and a UNESCO World Heritage National Park, to the laurel forests of Anaga, a Biosphere Reserve. Ravines, cliffs, volcanic landscapes and trails for every level await.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a permit to climb Mount Teide's peak?

Yes. To walk the final stretch (Telesforo Bravo trail) up to 3,715 m you need a free permit, requested in advance on the National Parks website. The cable car reaches 3,555 m and requires no permit.

When is the best time for hiking?

Tenerife can be hiked year-round thanks to its mild climate. Spring and autumn are ideal; in summer avoid midday hours, and in winter it can snow on Teide’s higher elevations.

What protected natural areas are there?

Highlights include Teide National Park, Anaga Rural Park (Biosphere Reserve), Teno Rural Park and the Corona Forestal Natural Park, plus numerous viewpoints and natural pools.
