La Orotava is a town in the north of Tenerife whose old town, declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1976, preserves cobbled streets, churches, and stately homes with tea balconies like the famous Casa de los Balcones (17th century). Located in the fertile Orotava Valley at about 390 meters above sea level, it is famous for its flower and Teide sand carpets of Corpus Christi, a tradition started in 1847 and declared of National Tourist Interest.
