The most important climbing area in the Canary IslandsSeveral hundred equipped routes of all levelsIntermediate grades predominate

Set of sport climbing sectors in the southeast of the island, considered the most important in the Canary Islands. It has several hundred equipped routes of all levels, with a predominance of intermediate grades, on volcanic ignimbrite up to about 35 m high. It includes sectors such as Arico Arriba, Arico Abajo, and Los Naranjos, as well as bouldering areas in the nearby ravines.

The accesses are usually a few minutes' walk from the parking lot.

Essential information

Accessibility

Access is by car from the village of Arico, taking the road towards the El Contador recreational area and turning off onto the paved tracks towards the different ravines (Ortiz, Los Naranjos, El Río), where there are small plains and areas next to the bridges/ravines for parking. From the parking area, access to the sectors is on foot via ravine paths, so it is not an accessible area for people with reduced mobility.

Risk Level

It is sport climbing on volcanic rock walls up to about 35 m: a risky activity that requires experience, certified equipment, and a helmet due to the possibility of falls and rockfalls.
