Arico Nuevo is one of the best-preserved rural hamlets in Tenerife and is declared a Site of Cultural Interest with the category of Historic Ensemble. Its value lies in an almost intact layout of traditional whitewashed houses, with white walls, stone corners and gabled tiled roofs, arranged around narrow lanes, threshing floors and gardens. Walking through its streets is like travelling back to the Canarian domestic architecture of the 18th and 19th centuries, when the settlement consolidated around midland agriculture.

The harmony of the white lime against the ochre landscape, the absence of noise and the feeling of a village frozen in time make this ensemble an essential visit for understanding the traditional rural world of the island's south.

Essential information

Accessibility

By car from the TF-1 highway, take the exit towards Arico and connect with the TF-28 (former General South Road), which crosses the town center; from there, turn onto Nuestra Señora de la Luz street (also called La Luz street), which leads to the square of the church of Nuestra Señora de la Luz, the heart of the historic complex, located about 350 m above sea level between the ravines of La Atalaya and Lere. It is visited on foot through its linear alleys; parking is on the town's own street, and there are no confirmed parking lots or specific accessibility for people with reduced mobility.
