Moderate difficulty coastal walk through the Anaga trail network (PR-TF 6.2)Connects Taganana with Benijo beachWild black sand beach

The route links the fishing village of Taganana with the Benijo area along the north coast of the Anaga massif, in the municipality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, crossing old cultivation terraces, banana plantations, and the hamlets of Almaciga and Roque de las Bodegas. The route is part of the Anaga Rural Park trail network; the coastal section is marked as PR-TF 06.2 (Roque de las Bodegas - Almaciga - Benijo - El Draguillo), about 9 km point to point and of moderate difficulty, identified with white and yellow marks. Benijo is a wild black sand beach famous for the Roques de Benijo, which emerge from the ocean and make it one of the most photographed spots on the island, especially at sunset.

However, direct access to the beach has been closed to the public since July 8, 2024, due to the risk of landslides on the slope next to the entrance stairs, a situation that continues pending stabilization works on the slope (declared an emergency by the City Council in May 2026). The environment retains a strong rural and natural character, with dragon trees and vegetation typical of Anaga.

Essential information

Accessibility

By car from Santa Cruz, take the TF-11 to San Andres and from there, the TF-12 that goes up to El Bailadero; after the El Bailadero tunnel, connect with the TF-134, which descends towards Taganana, Almaciga, and Benijo. Parking is limited, with few spaces, next to the El Mirador restaurant (Benijo area) and fills up quickly during high season and weekends. By public transport, there is the TITSA bus line 946 (Santa Cruz Interchange - San Andres - El Bailadero Junction - Taganana - Almaciga), from which stop you must continue on foot. The terrain consists of trails and stairs, with no accessibility for people with reduced mobility.

Risk Level

IMPORTANT: access to Benijo beach has been closed by order of the Santa Cruz City Council since July 2024 due to the risk of rockfalls on the slope, a closure that remains in effect; respect the fencing and signage, do not go down to the sand, and exercise extreme caution due to waves, currents, and falling stones along the entire coastal stretch.
