The coastline of Los Silos is of volcanic nature, carved by lava flows where the Atlantic has sculpted natural sea water pools, traditional bathing refuges for the locals. The coastal front, which extends towards Sibora and the neighboring Interián, combines pebble beaches, natural pools, and a unique ethnographic heritage: gofio mills like the Molino de Daute (now the Nature and Landscape Interpretation Center), old lime kilns, and the Telegraph House, vestiges of the life and economy of the coastline. It is a perfect stretch for walks by the ocean, to watch the waves breaking against the black rock, and for peaceful baths when the sea allows it.

The promenade, presided over by the skeleton of the whale, combines nature, history, and the salty breeze of the Isla Baja in a relaxed and uncrowded environment.

Essential information

Accessibility

By car, access is via the El Puertito road from the center of Los Silos; there is parking next to the El Puertito Municipal Pool (limited), and from there you can reach on foot via the coastal promenade and walkways over volcanic rock to the pools (Los Chochos, La Araña). The Los Silos Coastal Route runs about 5 km between La Caleta de Interián and El Puertito de Daute along a dirt path with gentle slopes; the Charco Los Chochos has a stone staircase with a handrail to descend into the water.

Risk Level

It is a swim in a volcanic coast open to the North Atlantic: the rocks are slippery and there are sea urchins (footwear recommended), and with a swell or wind, the waves can make swimming dangerous, so it is advisable to avoid it in rough seas.
