El Charco del Viento is one of the most frequented and accessible natural pools on the north coast of Tenerife, in the municipality of La Guancha. It is a set of pools formed by ancient lava flows that, upon cooling when entering the sea, created a small cove with black volcanic rock inlets and sandy areas. Its waters, with shades ranging from deep blue to emerald green depending on the light, are usually calm and ideal for swimming and snorkeling on calm days.

The area has been equipped with a large parking lot, a renovated access staircase, and a solarium, although it lacks official surveillance. During the descent along the access road, among banana plantations, you can enjoy views of Teide.

Essential information

Accessibility

By car: from the TF-5 (North highway) take the exit towards La Guancha in the direction of Icod de los Vinos; a paved and signposted link with the name of the charco descends between banana plantations to a large parking area by the coast. From the parking area, access to the pools is via a renovated staircase, so it is not suitable for people with reduced mobility.

Risk Level

It is a natural pool on an open coast without surveillance: although the lava tongues shelter the bathing area, with a swell or rough sea, the Atlantic breaks very close, so it is advisable to bathe at low tide and avoid the water with strong waves.
