The Natural Monument of Montaña Centinela protects a volcanic (pyroclastic) cone located near the coast of Arico, with an altitude of about 269 meters, considered one of the best-preserved cones in Tenerife. Its main value lies in the combination of this geological formation with the surrounding plains, occupied by an excellent example of cardonal-tabaibal, the characteristic vegetation of the Canary basal zone, dominated by sweet tabaiba and accompanied by cardones, balos, and saltworts. It also hosts a varied fauna, with birds such as the Spectacled Warbler, Trumpeter Finch, or Kestrel, and various reptiles.

It was declared a protected area by Canarian legislation and integrated into the Canary Network of Protected Natural Areas and the Natura 2000 Network, and constitutes an exceptional setting for hiking and nature observation.
