La Tejita Beach, in Granadilla de Abona next to El Médano, is one of the largest natural beaches in the south of Tenerife, with nearly 1,000 meters of length and dark sand. It is located at the foot of Montaña Roja, a volcanic cone about 171 meters high, protected as a Special Natural Reserve for its geomorphological values and seabirds. Due to its wave and wind conditions, surfing, bodyboarding, windsurfing, and kitesurfing are common activities.

As it is within a protected area, car access to the beach is not allowed, and it is reached on foot from parking areas along the road from El Médano to Los Abrigos.

Essential information

Accessibility

By car from the TF-1 (San Isidro/El Médano exit) via the El Médano-Los Abrigos road: vehicular access to the sand is not allowed as it is a Natural Reserve, but there are parking lots along that road (more than 100 spaces) from where several walking paths lead to the beach in about 5-10 minutes; there is an intercity bus service to the area and the beach does not have specific facilities for people with reduced mobility.

Risk Level

It is an open beach with strong winds and waves, common for windsurfing and kitesurfing, so caution is advised when swimming and monitoring the currents.
