Pilgrimage of the Virgen del Socorro - Güímar

7 Septiembre — 8 Septiembre

The longest-standing pilgrimage in Tenerife and in the whole of the Canary Islands. Every 7 September, thousands of pilgrims accompany the image of the Virgen del Socorro from the church of San Pedro, in the centre of Güímar, down to her chapel on the beach of El Socorro. The celebration commemorates the appearance of Nuestra Señora del Socorro to the Guanche people on the beach of Chimisay. The next day, 8 September, the image is carried back up to the church of San Pedro. It is one of the largest gatherings in the archipelago.
