Open data we reuse

The municipality pages in this guide incorporate information published as open data by the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife (the island council). Here we set out exactly which datasets we use, where they come from, under what licence and how recent the data is.

What we show and where

On each of the 31 municipality pages we add an official-data block listing the waymarked trails crossing the municipality, the managed recreation areas and viewpoints, the tourist information office (with opening hours, phone and whether it is open) and the listed heritage sites, each linking to its official gazette entry.

Datasets used

Licence and attribution

All datasets are published under a Creative Commons Attribution licence (CC BY). The data is reproduced without altering its content: we only group it by municipality and translate the category labels into the site’s six languages. Authorship belongs to the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, which neither endorses nor takes part in this guide.

How we process it

We download the CSV files from the catalogue, normalise the municipality names (the datasets spell them in 54 different ways: “Orotava (La)”, “Güimar” without the accent, “San Miguel”…) and group them by the corresponding municipality. No value is altered.

An issue found at source

While preparing this integration we found that the GeoJSON file of the “Itinerarios de la isla de Tenerife” dataset has its values shifted relative to their field names from the fourth column onwards: for instance, “itinerario_modalidad” holds the finishing place and “itinerario_altura_maxima” holds the list of municipalities. The CSV file of the same dataset is correctly aligned, and that is the one we use. We note it here for transparency and for anyone reusing the same data.
