
Fine Arts Museum of Santa Cruz

The Municipal Museum of Fine Arts of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is one of the most important art galleries in the Canary Islands; its origins date back to 1840 and the current building, in a classicist style by architect Eladio Laredo, was inaugurated in 1933, adorned on the outside with busts of illustrious Tenerife figures. It has been declared a Site of Cultural Interest with the category of Monument since 1962. Distributed in fourteen rooms, it houses Flemish, Spanish, and Canarian paintings from the 16th to the 20th century, as well as sculpture and decorative arts.
Among its works are the Nava y Grimón Triptych by Pieter Coecke, an Orpheus by Jan Brueghel, and pieces by Sorolla, Ribera, and Madrazo, and it includes works on loan from the Museo del Prado. Admission is free.
