Parque Etnográfico Pirámides de Güímar
Updated 2 August 2026
The Ethnographic Park Pirámides de Güímar is an area of about 65,000-67,000 m² open to the public in 1998 at the initiative of the Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl, in the municipality of Güímar (eastern coast of Tenerife). Its core consists of six stepped structures made of volcanic stone that Heyerdahl studied upon finding parallels with pyramids from other cultures; most archaeologists, however, attribute them to the clearing of stones from 19th-century agricultural fields. The park houses exhibition pavilions on Heyerdahl's expeditions, with models of his ships and a life-size reproduction of the papyrus boat Ra II.
The visit is completed by a botanical garden, officially recognized in 2017, along with outdoor trails and thematic exhibitions. The complete visit requires a minimum of two hours.
