Iglesia de San Pedro Apóstol
Updated 2 August 2026
The mother church of San Pedro Apóstol, in the historic center of Güímar, has its origins in the hermitage of El Tanque, built in 1606 by the master stonemason Pedro de Savalía. The major renovation and expansion begun in 1794, extended until the early 19th century, gave it its current appearance: three naves of equal height separated by semicircular arches on Tuscan order columns. Its baroque façade of blue stonework carved in two sections, the work of master Juan Agustín García, stands out.
The bell tower, in a classicist style, was built between 1821 and 1828. Inside, there are preserved altarpieces, an organ, and the images of San Pedro Apóstol and Our Lady of Socorro, the patron saint of the municipality.
