Montaña Guajara (Alto de Guajara)
Updated 2 August 2026
Mount Guajara (about 2,715 m) is the fourth highest peak in Tenerife and the Canary Islands, after Teide, Pico Viejo, and Montaña Blanca, and the highest summit of the wall enclosing the caldera of Las Cañadas del Teide. Its ascent is one of the classic routes of the National Park: it starts from the vicinity of the Parador and the Cañada Blanca Visitor Center and is usually done in a circular route combining several marked trails; from the Parador area, trails no. 4 (Siete Cañadas) and no.
5 (Degollada de Guajara) are linked to the Degollada de Guajara, where the official trail no. 15 (Alto de Guajara) begins, classified as high difficulty by the National Park. From the summit, a 360-degree panoramic view opens up over Teide, Pico Viejo, the Roques de García, and the south of the island.

At the top, the remains of the cabin of the French astronomer Jean Mascart, who in 1910 studied the passage of Halley's comet and planned an observatory there, are preserved. The toponym is of Guanche origin and is linked to the legend of Princess Guajara.
