Drago Milenario de Icod de los Vinos

Updated 2 August 2026
Largest and oldest known Dracaena dracoDeclared National Monument in 1917Estimated age between 800 and 1,000 years

The Drago Milenario is the largest and oldest known specimen of Dracaena draco, the plant symbol of Tenerife, located in the Parque del Drago in Icod de los Vinos. It was declared a National Monument in 1917 and it is popularly regarded as millenary, although scientific studies estimate its actual age at around 700 years, with a height of about 18 meters and a perimeter at the base around 20 meters. The tree is surrounded by a botanical park of about 3 hectares that showcases endemic Canarian flora such as cardones, tabaibas, and palm trees, along with a representation of the island's bioclimatic zones.

The species produces the so-called dragon's blood, a reddish resin historically valued for dyeing and medicinal purposes.
