Playa de Abama is a small cove (about 100 meters long) located at the foot of the cliffs of The Ritz-Carlton, Abama complex in Guia de Isora. Unlike much of the southwestern coastline, its sand is golden and fine, as it was artificially supplied (imported origin), giving it a lighter appearance than the nearby volcanic beaches. It is sheltered by rocks, with calm and clear waters that make it suitable for swimming, and it has a free-access beach club/chiringuito, as well as sunbed and umbrella service (mainly oriented towards resort guests), showers, and toilets.

Despite its association with the luxury hotel, it is a public beach with free access: anyone can go down by leaving the car above and descending on foot, although the cliff funicular is reserved for resort guests.

Essential information

Accessibility

By car: TF-1 exit 83 towards the coast of Guia de Isora and then TF-465 towards the Abama complex; leave the vehicle in the parking area next to the resort and walk down about 10 minutes along a path and a long steep staircase to the cove. The panoramic funicular/elevator that descends the cliff is for the exclusive use of Ritz-Carlton Abama guests, so public access is via the stairs and is not suitable for people with reduced mobility.

Risk Level

The descent and ascent are via a long and steep staircase; wear appropriate footwear and bring water, and be cautious when swimming although the waters are usually calm and sheltered.
