Playa de Antequera

Updated 2 August 2026
Pristine dark volcanic sand beach in AnagaAbout 400 m in lengthAccess only on foot or by boat

Playa de Antequera is a pristine beach with fine, dark volcanic sand located on the southern coast of the Anaga massif, in the municipality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, near Igueste de San Andrés. It measures about 400 meters in length and about 25 meters in width, enclosed by cliffs, with the characteristic Roque de Antequera in the background. With no road access, it can only be reached on foot via a challenging trail or by boat from San Andrés and Santa Cruz; a water taxi connects to Las Teresitas beach in about 20 minutes.

It lacks services, parking, and public transport, which maintains its wild character and low attendance, and is frequented by nudists. It is advisable to visit at low tide, when more sand is exposed.

Essential information

Accessibility

Access is only on foot via the trail of about 6.4 km (about 3 hours) that descends from Chamorga through the Antequera ravine, or by boat/water taxi from San Andrés and Las Teresitas (about 20 minutes, with prior reservation); there is no road, parking, or public transport.

Risk Level

The trail is long and demanding, with no shade or services in its final stretch; bring water and appropriate footwear, and be aware of the waves and that part of the sand is covered at high tide.
