Day Trip La Palma Volcanoes
Verified content· Updated 25 June 2026
Full-day excursion (about 12 hours) to the island of La Palma to closely observe the effects of the Tajogaite volcano eruption (Cumbre Vieja), which occurred between September and December 2021. The trip includes a round-trip ferry from the port of Los Cristianos to Santa Cruz de La Palma —a crossing of about 2 and a half hours with Fred Olsen Express— and a bus tour of the island with a guide. The usual program combines a visit to Santa Cruz de La Palma (with its colonial houses) and the observation of the volcanic cone and solidified lava flows from accessible points such as the Tajuya viewpoint in El Paso.
It is important to note that direct access to the crater is restricted and only possible through guided hiking routes booked separately, so many day trips view the volcano from viewpoints instead of walking to the cone.
