Abades is a coastal area in the municipality of Arico, in the south of Tenerife, next to Playa de Los Abriguitos, which is about 250 meters long with fine black sand of volcanic origin. Its calm and shallow waters make it one of the most well-known diving and snorkeling spots from the coast on the island, with a maximum depth of around 18 meters suitable for divers of all levels. The marine life is varied and includes moray eels, octopuses, parrotfish, and sea turtles, especially in the summer months.
The surroundings are also notable for the old sanatorium of Abades (the "leprosarium"), built in the 1940s to isolate leprosy patients and which never came into service, today it has become one of the most unique and photographed places in the area.
