Taxis are white and use a meter. For city and short trips they are very handy; for long distances (e.g. south to north) a rental car or pre-booked transfer is usually better value.
You can take them at ranks, hail them in the street (green light = available) or book by phone and local apps. There are special fares and surcharges for the airport, luggage or public holidays. For airport trips, ask the approximate price before setting off: many resort areas have well-known reference fares.
