Risco del Mazapé

Risco del Mazapé

San Juan de la Rambla

An imposing inland cliff that dominates the municipality's landscape and can be admired from Las Aguas and the El Mazapé viewpoint, with wide views of the north coast. Beyond its scenic value, it holds a remarkable Guanche archaeological legacy: aboriginal burials are documented in its caves, among them the funerary cave of Las Andoriñas, in the upper part of the cliff, with abundant human, lithic, shell and ceramic remains. It forms part of a first-rate archaeological complex, together with the caves of the Chaurera and Ruiz ravines, which testifies to the ancient human occupation of this territory before the Castilian conquest.
