Las Galletas and Costa del Silencio

Great underwater tradition of the south of TenerifeProtected marine micro-area next to Costa del SilencioStable waters and good visibility all year round

Las Galletas, in the municipality of Arona, is one of the points with the greatest diving tradition in the south of Tenerife. Its coastline, along with the neighboring Costa del Silencio, is part of one of the island's protected marine micro-areas. The area offers stable waters throughout the year, good visibility, and volcanic seabeds with tubes and caves, as well as shallow areas suitable for beginners.

Among its most well-known dives is the wreck of El Condesito. The beach is of black volcanic sand and open to the public; diving is practiced from the coast and from boats.

Essential information

Accessibility

By car via the TF-1 motorway, exit 26 (Guaza/Las Galletas), heading towards the village and the Marina del Sur marina, which has parking and where the diving centers are concentrated. Las Galletas beach has parking for about 50-100 spaces. The official Tenerife Tourism file (webtenerife) does not include adapted access for people with reduced mobility ('Disabled access: No'). However, the Arona City Council offers a free adapted bathing service (with amphibious chair) on this beach on Thursdays and Fridays during July and August, from 11:00 to 14:00 and from 15:00 to 18:00, managed by the company Pro-Activa (reservations/contact: arona@pro-activa.es); it is advisable to check availability before visiting. Most diving centers organize dives (shore or boat) from the marina itself, so it is most convenient to go directly with an authorized center.

Risk Level

It is a diving and swimming area with volcanic seabeds: always dive with an authorized center, respect the depth limits according to your certification, and check the currents and sea conditions before entering the water.
