Iglesia de San Fernando Rey
The parish church of San Fernando Rey presides over the central square of Santiago del Teide, next to the Town Hall. Its origins date back to the late 17th century: the parish was established on 9 September 1679 at the initiative of Fernando del Hoyo Solórzano, lord of the Valley, over the old hermitage dedicated to Saint James the Apostle. With a single nave and rectangular plan, it features a hemispherical dome, a white-and-grey façade, a beautiful wooden balcony in the Canarian tradition and a bell-gable crowned with a cross.
Its main altarpiece venerates the image of the Santísimo Cristo del Valle, central to the 1909 rogation that, according to tradition, halted the Chinyero lava flows. It is the spiritual heart of the municipality and the setting for its main religious celebrations.
