Founded in 1511, the Parroquia Matriz de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción is the mother church of Tenerife, as all other parishes on the island originated from it. Its layout is organized into three naves separated by semicircular arches and it preserves a remarkable Mudejar-style coffered ceiling inside. The bell tower, built at the end of the 17th century and about 28 meters high, is one of the symbols of the city and can be climbed to view the historic center (World Heritage Site).

It was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument on June 25, 1948, and is listed as a Cultural Interest Asset (code RI-51-0001212).

Essential information

Accessibility

It is located in the historic center of La Laguna (between Plaza de la Concepción and Plaza Doctor Olivera), a largely pedestrian area: by car, it is advisable to leave the vehicle in nearby parking lots (such as Parking La Concepción or the area of Plaza del Adelantado) and walk; by bus, the TITSA lines that reach the center of La Laguna drop you off a few minutes' walk away. It has the TUR4all accessibility badge: the door's step is overcome with mobile wooden ramps upon request, and interior circulation in a wheelchair is complete, with a nearby reserved PMR parking space.
