Lago Martiánez
Updated 2 August 2026
El Lago Martiánez (also known as Costa Martiánez) is a municipal complex of saltwater pools in Puerto de la Cruz, conceived by the Lanzarote artist César Manrique and integrated with volcanic rock, gardens, and sculptures. The first pools opened in 1971, and the large artificial lake, the heart of the complex, was inaugurated on April 30, 1977. It features seven saltwater pools pumped directly from the sea (four for adults and three adapted for children), as well as solariums, restaurants, and bars.
In the center of the lake stands an artificial island that, since 2006, houses the casino of Puerto de la Cruz (known as Casino Taoro). It was declared a Site of Cultural Interest with the category of Historic Garden in 2005.
