Playa de las Américas is the main tourist center in the south of Tenerife, developed from the 1960s as an extension of Los Cristianos. Urbanistically, it is situated over two municipalities, Arona and Adeje, and is seamlessly connected to Costa Adeje. It features several beaches, mostly artificial with imported golden sand, separated by breakwaters, including Playa de Troya I and II, Playa Honda, and Playa del Camisón.

An extensive promenade links Los Cristianos with Playa de las Américas and Costa Adeje, lined with shops, bars, and restaurants. Next to the area is Puerto Colón, a marina from which whale and dolphin watching excursions depart.
