Kayak and paddle surfing along the coastRow among turtles in El PuertitoCliffs of Los Gigantes from the water

Kayaking and paddle surfing (SUP) are a peaceful and beautiful way to discover the southwest coast of Tenerife from the water. In the bay of El Puertito de Adeje, with its clear and protected waters, there is a marine micro-reserve where green turtles swim freely, so it is common to paddle among them and combine the trip with snorkeling. In Los Gigantes, paddling at the foot of its volcanic basalt walls - which rise almost vertically up to about 600 meters high - and exploring small coves and sea caves is spectacular.

Most operators offer guided trips of about two hours for all levels, with stable kayaks suitable for beginners and often include snorkeling. Bring sunscreen and water: the Canarian sun is deceiving and it's advisable to stay well hydrated.

Essential information

Accessibility

Kayak/SUP trips usually depart from the Los Gigantes Marina (paid parking next to the port) and from El Puertito de Adeje beach, which is reached via the TF-1 exit 78 towards La Caleta-Adeje: in El Puertito the final stretch is not paved and parking is very limited (free spots on the street fill up early), so it's advisable to arrive early or park in La Caleta and walk.

Risk Level

It is an activity in open sea: paddle only when the sea is calm, wear a life jacket and, especially in Los Gigantes, do it on a guided trip with a support boat, as the wind and waves at the foot of the cliffs can change quickly.
